Barbados Resorts Featuring
The Radisson Aquatica

Grand Barbados was just one of the Barbados resorts I would intentionally ignore on my way to Cuz’s fish shack or the white sand beaches at Needhams point and Pebbles.

Little did I know that it would all change in 2013.

I had heard about the major changes at the resort but the transformation made me sit up and take note.

Like a debutante making an entrance at her coming-of-age party, this demure hotel was now bursting with style and personality.

Radisson Aquatica Resort Barbados was born.

The resort was recently added to the Radisson brand (parent company is the Carlson Rezidor Hotels Group) and has been completely refurbished.

The atmosphere is inviting. With its newly appointed rooms and three beaches in close proximity, it provides good value for the money as one of Barbados’ resorts without leaving a hole in your wallet.  This hotel caters to all travelers – families with kids, couples, and business travelers.

Features

The hotel has 124 rooms and delivers on comfort, cleanliness and décor.

Some rooms feature upgraded amenities like turn-down service, robes and slippers, complimentary shoe shine, local newspaper and round-trip transportation to and from the airport.

The Radisson Aquatica Resort delivers a panoramic view of Brownes Beach and Bridgetown. This is one of the best Barbados resorts for an unobstructed view of the capital Bridgetown and its port where several cruise ships dock on a weekly basis.

The beach is perfect for brisk morning walks or invigorating runs along the beach.  As a matter of fact, you can walk to Bridgetown from Brownes Beach and you just might need to after wolfing down those mouth watering fish sandwiches at Cuz’s.

One of the best views of the beach is from the seventh floor of the hotel.  Look north and you’ll see the capital Bridgetown and its port.  Look farther south and you’ll see Pebbles Beach, the Hilton Hotel and Needhams Point beach.  It is nothing short of spectacular.

Any closer and you'll be gliding through the air with the flying fish..

I’ll give you a taste of what you’ll get.  The rooms are built twelve feet above sea level.

So what’s the big deal, you say?

Just imagine gazing at all different species of fish in the water… from your balcony!  It’s like having an over-sized fish tank right outside of your room.  Check out the amenities below.

I still can’t decide which one I love more – the 7th floor rooms with their spectacular view of the beach and surrounding area, or the privacy of the pier suites* with the ocean water lapping at my feet.

Dining and Entertainment

Who needs breakfast with a view like this?

The one good thing about Barbados is that you will never have to go far to find great food.  Starting with the resort’s own Aquatic Club Restaurant or Neptune’s Grill, you can enjoy waterfront a la carte or buffet dining. Happy hour at the Diamond’s Bar (6:00pm – 7:00pm daily) can help you unwind after a fun-filled day of activities.

If you’re ready for some local “flava” and would prefer to dine outside the hotel, you can check out Cuz 's Fish Stand for light sandwiches and snacks.

Cuz has a steady following and has grown in popularity, not just amongst Bajans and visitors to the island but also globally, believe it or not.  You have to get there early (11 a.m.) if you want to luck out on food.  Yes, the sandwiches and snacks are that good and they sell out quickly.

Brown Sugar Restaurant is just a few feet away and specializes in local food.  Do check out their Planters Buffet lunch.

There is one surefire way of finding out how good a restaurant’s food is… follow the repeat crowd.  This is definitely a good one.

This one's not on the menu but ask about their golden apple juice. There is a fruit tree in the yard, and if the fruit is in season, they'll pick the fruit right off the tree and make a delicious juice right on the spot for you.  It is awesome!

The hotel currently does not offer in-house water sports but there are three shops conveniently located adjacent to the hotel – Paddle Barbados (offers stand-up paddle-boarding or SUP), Dive Barbados Blue and Cruising Club.
